Description
Smith and Wesson 317 Kit Gun Matte Silver .22 LR 3" 8-Shot 160221
Smith and Wesson 317 Kit Gun
The Smith and Wesson 317 Kit Gun is a DA/SA J-frame revolver chambered in .22 LR with a 3 inch stainless barrel and an 8-Shot cylinder. An aluminum alloy frame and cylinder keep the AirWeight package at 11.7 ounces and 7.2 inches overall in a matte silver finish. A HI-VIZ green fiber optic front sight and an adjustable rear sight give a clear picture for range work and field use.
The small J-frame has been a carry and kit revolver layout since 1950, and the Model 317 joined the AirWeight line in 1997 as a lightweight .22 LR. An exposed hammer supports single action shots, and the double action pull lets the shooter fire without cocking. An internal lock is built into the frame. Finger grooved black polymer grips keep the hold compact on a gun light enough for a tackle box or kit bag.
This 317 Kit Gun suits plinking, small game, and recreational shooting when a full size .22 revolver is more than needed. The 8-Shot cylinder holds more than a typical six shot rimfire wheelgun. It is a practical choice for shooters who want a matte silver J-frame with adjustable sights and a fiber optic front in a package that stays easy to carry.

Overall quality is decent for new revolvers from Smith & Wesson. Have not had time to shoot it yet. Typical J frame 22 long rifle trigger pulls.S.A.-4.5lb,D.A.-11.5lb. A lot of people complain about the sights on this model but as a kit pistol, I believe they’re very usable.
Of course.. what really stands out with this revolver is the weight.. or lack of. When you pick this up you cant believe you are actually holding a real firearm. Being a 22 there is absolutely no recoil even with the light weight. Shooting single action I was able to get good groups at 10-15 yards. I could hit steel at 25 yards in single and double action. This will be going on outings as a plinker. Dont expect 25 yard accuracy like from a MK IV with a red dot and Volquartzen trigger... but that is not what this is for. Pretty cool little plinker that does not add weight to the backpack.
